Private Sports & Fitness Training
for
special needs children

At Fit First, we specialize in empowering children and young adults with special needs through tailored fitness programs that support their unique physical, social, and emotional development. Our programs are thoughtfully designed by head coach Adam, a certified personal trainer and experienced special needs teacher, to help children achieve their fitness goals in a fun and safe environment. With a team of expert coaches trained in adaptive fitness and experience working with neurodivergent children and those with co-occurring physical disabilities, Fit First offers programs that make fitness accessible, enjoyable, and impactful.

At Fit First, we believe that every child can thrive with the right support and encouragement. Our private 1-on-1 fitness sessions are tailored to the unique needs of children with special needs, offering a safe and personalized environment to build confidence, improve physical abilities, and develop skills that can help them transition into group fitness classes or organized sports.

What Makes Fit First Unique?

Tailored Programs for Children with Special Needs

Every child is unique, which is why we create personalized fitness programs designed to meet their individual needs. Whether a child is neurodivergent, has hyper-mobility challenges like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, or requires support to build strength and coordination, our adaptive education specialists craft fitness plans that address specific goals while ensuring safety and enjoyment.

A Bridge Between OT/PT and Fitness

Fit First bridges the gap between occupational or physical therapy and independent physical fitness. For children completing Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy programs, our fitness routines help them transition into regular physical activity by reinforcing functional movement, improving strength, and building confidence.

Expert Coaches in Adaptive Fitness

Our certified coaches have extensive training in adaptive fitness techniques, ABA techniques, or experience working with children who have diverse needs. They specialize in creating programs that promote functional movement, mobility, and flexibility, while addressing sensory regulation and physical challenges.

Functional Movement Training

Designed to improve everyday mobility and strength, functional movement training focuses on practical exercises that enhance balance, stability, and coordination. This training prepares children for daily activities and builds a strong foundation for physical independence.

Heavy Work Training for Sensory Regulation

"Heavy work" activities provide proprioceptive input, which is especially helpful for children with sensory processing needs. These activities, such as carrying, pulling, or pushing, promote strength and sensory regulation, improving focus, mood, and self-awareness.

Core Strength and Flexibility

Strong core muscles are the cornerstone of physical health. Our programs focus on developing core strength and flexibility to improve posture, balance, and overall physical stability. This is especially beneficial for children with hyper-mobility or conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Sport Skills Development

For children interested in participating in school or community sports, we teach fundamental sport skills in a variety of games. This helps children build confidence, coordination, and an understanding of teamwork, enabling them to join and excel in sports activities with their peers.

Sport-Based Social Integration

Social skills are just as important as physical skills. Through building physical strength and motor skills activities, children with special needs are able to feel more comfortable in group sports settings, allowing them to engage in cooperative games that foster communication, teamwork, and inclusion. These programs create opportunities for children to interact positively with peers while participating in sports or fitness activities.

Personalized Attention

Private sessions allow for 100% focus on your child’s needs, with exercises and activities tailored to their abilities, preferences, pace, and goals. Whether they are working on improving mobility, strength, or coordination, every session is designed specifically for their progress.

Building Confidence

Many children with special needs feel more comfortable starting in a private setting before transitioning to group environments. Private fitness sessions help build confidence in a calm, low-pressure space, preparing them to succeed in group classes or team sports.

Sensory-Friendly Training

Private sessions provide an ideal setting to develop foundational sport skills such as running, catching, throwing, and balance. These skills can help your child feel more prepared and confident in school PE classes, community sports leagues, or Fit First group classes.

Focused Skill Development

For children interested in participating in school or community sports, we teach fundamental sport skills in a variety of games. This helps children build confidence, coordination, and an understanding of teamwork, enabling them to join and excel in sports activities with their peers.
